Ring the changes:  to do something in a different way in order to make it more interesting

Example:  

For variety, ring the changes on packed lunches using different types of bread and spicy fillings.

Out of the blue: Something unexpected.

Example:  

One day, out of the blue, she announced that she was leaving.

Fall into place: Produce the situation you want.

Example:  

If you plan the project well, then everything should fall into place.

Goes downhill: Gradually becomes worse.

Example:

After his wife died, his health started to go downhill.

Is on the cards: Likely to happen.

Example:  

So you think there’ll be an election next year.” “I think it’s on the cards.
